Montañas Murmurantes (Murmuring Mountains) (2025)

Teatro de de las Mitras (in 6 parts, constructed as an assembly kit in Valchromat) variable sizes. 2025

Laboratorio Arte AC in collaboration with Norwegian Crafts presents a new body of work in the brutalist pavilion at Parque Central, Tec de Monterrey. The exhibition Montañas Murmurantes (Murmuring Mountains) continues her ongoing investigation into the notion of “enaction” and what it can mean when developing site-specific artworks – this time in dialogue with the metropolis of Monterrey, surrounded by protected natural reserves and steep mountain formations.

The installation features floor-based sculptures and reliefs. These new works are composed of mineral and composite materials, addressing the extraction of resources from mountains and seabeds, connecting Mexico and Norway through a poetic reflection of sediments of time, global streams of minerals and manufacture for use in our digital age. Thus, Murmuring Mountains reflect on how our increasing dependence on technological infrastructures, to serve our life “in the cloud”, binds distant geographies and economies together.

Further on, Vinje’s works reference the modernist architecture of Tecnológico de Monterrey, the 1954 El Triunfo de la Cultura relief mural by Jorge González Camarena and a local quarrying site in the Cerro de las Mitras, where parts of the mountain are mined for cement production.

Developed in collaboration with students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, her works suggest a modal shift “from competition to compassion” – extending Vinje’s dialogue with the vision of Dutch artist Louwrien Wijers. Through this exchange, the exhibition reflects on art’s potential to activate new forms of embodied knowledge and collective awareness.
